Man accused of possession of drugs for meth

A man was recently arrested in Fulton under accusations of drug crimes. Missouri officers claim that the man was in possession of drugs, and the authorities suspect that the man had intentions to sell them. He now faces criminal charges relating to these accusations.

Police officers claim that the defendant was acting "suspicious" around 1:30 a.m. on a recent Saturday in Fulton. However, the activities that the authorities thought were suspicious were not described. It is also unclear why the officers were observing the suspect in the first place. Regardless, when the officers approached the man to question him, he allegedly attempted to flee from the officers.

The man supposedly fled through the yard of a home before the police officers were able to apprehend him. During the brief foot chase, the officers claim that the man threw an object into the yard. When the officers searched the area, they purportedly found suspected methamphetamine that was packaged in a way that they believe was intended for distribution. The man now faces criminal charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute as well as resisting arrest by fleeing. At last report, he was in police custody in lieu of a $14,500 bond.

Whenever a person is arrested and accused of being in possession of drugs, that person -- just like any other criminal defendant -- retains the presumption of innocence until, and only if, proven guilty in a court of law. Despite the evidence that the Missouri officers may claim to have against the man, the burden of proof remains with the prosecution. Meanwhile, the man will have every reasonable opportunity, with the help of his legal counsel, to defend himself against the accusations.
