Man sentenced for internet sex crimes, wife files for divorce

Missouri law is aggressive in its efforts to protect children. When law enforcement officers believe someone is committing internet sex crimes or other unlawful acts against minors, they sometimes set up a sting operation to investigate the situation. This occurred in March 2016, when a crime analyst posed as a young  girl online.

Anyone arrested or charged with such crimes after an undercover investigation is able to request immediate assistance from a criminal defense attorney. An experienced lawyer possesses skills that can be used to combat various tactics used by prosecutors when trying obtain a conviction. By acting alongside such guidance, a strong defense strategy may be employed, focused on achieving as positive a result as possible in court.

The recent situation ended with a conviction. A 29-year-old man will now spend two years of his life in prison. His wife has since filed for divorce after learning that her husband had set up a meeting to have a sexual encounter with someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl.

The undercover crime analyst is said to have repeatedly identified himself as a 13-year-old girl in all communications with the man. At his sentencing hearing, the man reportedly expressed remorse and regret for the internet sex crimes. Not every person accused of such crimes in Missouri goes to prison. Often, the outcome in an individual case depends largely on what type and how aggressive of a defense is presented; this is one reason defendants are advised to consult with experienced counsel before proceeding to court.
