Teen to begin criminal defense following pedestrian crash

A teenager has recently turned herself in to police custody after a warrant was issued for her arrest. The 17-year-old Missouri resident is accused of being involved in a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred last year. Alongside her legal counsel, she is likely focused on preparing her criminal defense against her charges.

The accident occurred on Oct. 13, 2014. The teenager was allegedly driving along MO-763 when she lost control of her vehicle and failed to stay in her lane. As she lost control, she apparently hit two pedestrians. The two pedestrians had to be transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. The 44-year-old woman was pronounced dead on arrival, and the condition of the 52-year-old man was not disclosed.

As the authorities investigated the scene of the accident, they say they did not find evidence that another vehicle might have forced the teenager to swerve and avoid a collision. The authorities have not determined whether the teen was distracted while driving, but they suspect that her own driving behavior is what led to the accident. However, the teen maintains that the accident occurred as she attempted to avoid a collision with another vehicle.

An arrest warrant was issued for the teen, charging her with operating a motor vehicle in an imprudent and careless manner, a misdemeanor. It is not clear at this time whether she may face additional charges. She has posted bond, and she is not currently in Missouri police custody. However, it certainly will be to her advantage to begin gathering information pertaining to her specific situation so that she may be better prepared to form her criminal defense.
