Man facing charges for alleged rape on Missouri campus

Being accused of a sex crime is by no means evidence of one's guilt. Missouri law, as in other states, protects the accused with the right to a fair trial. The impact upon one's life when accused of rape or other serious crimes can be significant and long-lasting; therefore, it is advisable to protect oneself by retaining the help of an experienced criminal lawyer when charged with a criminal offense.

A 21-year-old man whom authorities say is homeless was recently arrested in connection with a crime that was reported from a college campus earlier that day. It was approximately 4 p.m. on a Saturday when the man was placed under arrest and held in a county jail, pending a bond hearing. The incident allegedly involved a woman who says she was walking near a classroom building just before 4 a.m. that morning.

Allegations against the man indicate that he was behind the woman and entered into a conversation with her. The woman claimed he grabbed her and tried to assault her, after which she called 911. Apparently, police were also notified of an alleged rape at another nearby location at approximately 5:30 p.m. No explanation was reported for the difference in time and location.

Police say the investigation into the alleged rape remains ongoing at this time. In order to obtain fair and just treatment when accused of a sex crime in Missouri, it is advisable to secure legal representation as soon as possible after an arrest. One of the first things an attorney can do is to investigate the situation and make certain that the specific charges filed are appropriate to the situation.
