Search leads to possession of drugs, other charges in Missouri

Many people have made mistakes in their lives. For some people, these mistakes have resulted in time spent in prison. Unfortunately, even when people work hard to overcome their past, they can still face unfounded suspicions. One man in Missouri who was previously convicted now faces several charges, including accusations about possession of drugs.

The case involves a 63-year-old man. Police say that they issued a search warrant, apparently authorizing a search of the man's residence. Police reports indicate that they found a plastic bag that contained a white substance resembling a rock in a safe. That substance allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

In addition to the rock-like substance, police say that they discovered two loaded guns in the safe. He has since been arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, trafficking drugs and unlawful possession of a firearm, among other charges. His bail was set at $35,000.

Many details surrounding the allegations about possession of drugs and other accusations are unclear, including what caused police to initiate a search of the man's residence. Because of the seriousness of the charges against him, he may be unsure what decisions he should make in regard to his criminal defense. Fortunately, the Missouri man has the right to an attorney who can help him fully understand his options, allowing him to make informed decisions about the direction of his case. While he may choose to fight the charges in court, some people -- recognizing that there may be sufficient evidence for a conviction -- seek a plea agreement.
