Even family members who love each other dearly struggle to maintain a harmonious relationship at all times. Although families might sometimes have heated arguments, few turn violent. Unfortunately, one mother in Missouri has accused her son of assault recently, resulting in his arrest.
The incident reportedly occurred on a day in late June. According to reports, police were called to the scene in the afternoon. A woman complained that her son struck her several times with a fishing pole after waking her up, and then he shot at her when she attempted to flee the scene. When police arrived, they say that the residence was empty, but they discovered a gun. The man was discovered and arrested at a neighbor's house.
Police say that the son admitted that the two became involved in an argument. He allegedly admitted to striking her with the fishing pole when she knocked over some of his personal belongings, but he adamantly denies shooting at her or threatening her with a gun. He now faces two felony charges: unlawful use of a weapon and domestic assault.
The 19-year-old son is now being held on a $7,500 bond. He likely has several decisions to make in the coming days that he may find overwhelming. Many people in Missouri who have faced assault and other criminal charges have felt better informed about their options after hiring an experienced attorney. Such a professional can help throughout the stages of an investigation, including between an arrest and the decision to file charges, as many people may not be fully aware of how their words can be used against them in court.
