Missouri nursing home administrator charged with embezzlement

Anyone who has ever made a purchase for their place of employment is likely aware of the steps that are required as part of the compensation process. Because of this complexity, it is understandable that some steps might be accidentally skipped. Regardless of how innocent of an oversight may be, some people could fall under suspicion of embezzlement, for example. In fact, the former administrator of a nursing home in Missouri was recently charged after an auditor reportedly could not find proof that she deserved checks she had written to herself.

The 38-year-old woman is accused of stealing more than $31,000 from SpringHill. Officials say that she wrote herself over 100 checks ranging in amounts of $120 to $1,504. The checks were allegedly written from June through Dec. 2017. She became under suspicion during an audit of the residential facilities books.

During that audit, it was reportedly discovered that she had written herself checks without securing the approval of a second person as is required by company police. The auditor claims that it could not be determined that the woman was actually owed money. Police say that an examination of the woman's bank accounts revealed that she spent a significant amount of money at casinos.

Unfortunately, accusations of embezzlement are often complex. Those in Missouri with no legal training are often unsure about how best to respond. An attorney with experience with such cases can help defendants facing these allegations fully explore their options, allowing them to make informed decisions about their cases. Because of such help, a person facing criminal charges may feel less stress as they navigate the criminal justice system and have more confidence in the decisions that they make.
