Woman charged with murder in fatal Missouri car crash

It's important that Missouri drivers stay vigilant at all times. The common hazards that occur on the roadways aside, negligent motorists can create dangerous situations for the people they share the road with. In the unfortunate instances where poor driving leads to a fatality, the penalties can be stiff, going all the way up to felony murder, a charge which can be brought even in the absence of a DWI.

A crash that led to the death of a 26-year-old Camdenton woman has resulted in such a charge. The other driver in the accident, a 42-year-old woman from Kansas City, reportedly faces charges of second degree felony murder, felony driving while revoked, no seat belt, felony tampering and failure to drive on the right of the roadway resulting in accident.

The sheer number of charges is staggering, and it's not the first time the accused has been in trouble with the law. In 2013, she pled guilty to three misdemeanors, as well as driving while intoxicated - persistent offender. The Camden County Sherriff has not charged the woman with DWI for the fatal crash.

Taking place in the mid-afternoon on Route D in Camden County, the crash was fortunately limited to just two vehicles. The accused, driving a 2008 Ford Escape, was heading northbound before crossing the centerline into oncoming traffic. She then struck the other woman, driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, head-on.

The woman sustained significant injuries and passed away at Lake Regional Hospital later that evening. The accused was subject to arrest shortly after the crash, and also underwent medical treatment at University Hospital in Columbia. She could be facing harsh punishment, as she's currently serving a sentence of five years supervised probation, on top of a suspended executed sentence of four years of incarceration.
