Missouri woman faces criminal charges after courthouse incident

The criminal justice system is complicated. Even those with some experience with it may sometimes be unsure what actions are best. As such, the average person in Missouri is likely unsure of his or her options and the potential outcomes of each if accused of a crime. In fact, a woman now facingĀ criminal charges following an incident at a courthouse may be seeking advice about her situation.

The incident that led to the woman's arrest reportedly happened on a day in late November. Reports indicate that the 38-year-old woman was entering the courthouse and attempting to pass through security. However, law enforcement officers claim that deputies became ill after opening her purse.

Reports indicate that the woman stated that a substance in her purse was meth. However, tests conducted were unable to confirm that. A person with the fire department reports that there was an insufficient amount of the substance in the purse to have conclusive test results. The courthouse was closed while the Hazmat team worked to decontaminate the building.

Unfortunately, the woman now faces criminal charges as a result of the incident. Regardless of information provided in reports, she is presumed innocent unless -- and until -- sufficient evidence is provided to prove that she is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, a standard that is often difficult to meet. Despite the complicated nature of the criminal justice system, there areĀ professionals in Missouri who can help those in a similar situation determine the best course of action, including whether to defend themselves against the charges in court or accept a plea deal, if offered.
