Assault charges follow alleged cemetery assault in Missouri

When a crime occurs -- especially one in which there appears to be a physical injury inflicted -- there is an understandable need for answers. However, these answers do not always come quickly. Despite this, reports indicate that three people were reportedly arrested and charged with multiple crimes soon after an alleged assault in a Missouri cemetery.

The incident happened on a day in early April. The alleged victim, a 35-year-old woman, claims that she went to the cemetery with a friend, a 31-year-old woman. She claims that while there, her friend and two men, ages 31 and 59, attacked her. She was reportedly able to escape and hide in the woods.

Police reports indicate that the woman was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The three accused of being involved in the attack allegedly took the woman's truck and other possessions, but they were taken into custody soon afterward. They are all three charged with robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle, and armed criminal action, among other charges. The two men face an additional charge of first-degree assault, and the woman is charged with domestic assault.

Despite the assault and other charges against the Missouri trio, there are many details about the story that are unclear. To convict someone of a crime, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt -- a standard that is purposefully set high and is often difficult to meet. Most people who are facing criminal charges feel unprepared to make the critical decisions that they are facing as a result, making it difficult to make them on their own. Fortunately, there are professionals who can guide them as they navigate through the criminal justice system.
