Chiropractor Accused of Possession of Drugs
A chiropractor was recently arrested in Cape Girardeau under accusations of drug crimes. Law enforcement officers in Missouri conducted a search on the man’s property in 2014, but he has only recently been taken into police custody. The chiropractor now faces two counts of possession of drugs as well as one count of possession of paraphernalia.
The law enforcement officers apparently began observing the property on May 13, 2014. They say that the man who was renting space underneath the chiropractor’s office was a known drug dealer. The officers claim that they saw multiple vehicles enter and leave the property, and they were supposedly able to obtain a search warrant. Inside the residence, the officers say that they found multiple drugs, including methamphetamine, prescription drugs and marijuana.
The man who was renting part of the property was arrested on drug charges that day. The chiropractor and another individual were not present at the time of the search. The details surrounding the chiropractor’s eventual arrest are entirely unclear, but he was only recently taken into police custody on a $20,000 bond. He has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for meth and hydrocodone, in addition to the drug paraphernalia count.
While the possession of drugs accusations that the Missouri chiropractor faces are serious, he remains innocent before the court until — and only if — proven guilty. The man retains specific legal rights that he would do well to safeguard. One such right is the right to scrutinize every aspect of the search of his property along with his eventual arrest. If proper procedure was not followed at any time during this process, then it may well have an effect on disposition of the chiropractor’s case.
