MAN ACCUSED OF MURDER, ASSAULT AFTER CRIME SPREE

On Behalf of | Sep 11, 2014 | Firm News

A man is facing multiple criminal charges after a deadly crime spree in Kansas City. The Missouri authorities believe that a car-jacking gone bad led the man to shoot several potential witnesses, killing three and injuring two. He faces charges including murder and assault, and he may face additional charges from a separate incident.

At around 1 p.m., the authorities suspect that the man attempted to steal an SUV from a residence in a neighborhood near a country club. One of the residents of the home went outside to confront the man, and that person was shot and killed. In total, five people were shot with a shotgun either inside or outside of three separate residences. Three of the five lost their lives at the scene, and the other two were in critical condition.

The authorities then suspect that the man stole the SUV and drove it near a Motel 6 at around 3:15 p.m. Then the investigators suspect that he assaulted three additional individuals, but these persons were not assaulted with a weapon and they were not seriously injured. The man was arrested the same day just before midnight, and he faces multiple charges for his alleged crime spree.

The man faces multiple serious murder and assault charges. However, the burden of proving that the man was actually responsible for those crimes falls on the prosecution. If the Missouri prosecution cannot gather sufficient evidence to present against the man, they will not be able to obtain a conviction. In the meantime, the man would do well to focus and prepare his defense for when the trial begins.
