Missouri Driver Hospitalized, Suspected of DWI Following Crash
In less time than it takes to change a radio station or reach for a dropped item on the floorboard, a vehicle can drift slightly off the roadway. Many drivers in Missouri, concerned about the potential consequences of even momentarily leaving the roadway, have a moment of panic, causing them to drift off the road. Unfortunately, a driver in Missouri who is believed to have crashed in such a scenario is now suspected of DWI.
The incident happened one morning on a day in November. According to the traffic report, a 25-year-old male was on a Missouri roadway. Police believe that the vehicle went off the right side of the road, causing the driver to overcorrect. As a result, the vehicle then allegedly left the roadway on the left side, striking a parked car and a rock before it overturned.
The driver reportedly suffered moderate injuries that required treatment at the hospital. He is suspected of failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and driving while intoxicated. It is unclear what led police officers to believe that he may have been under the influence.
Unfortunately, it is easy to make assumptions about a person’s level of sobriety depending on the driver’s age and the time of day an accident occurs. However, assumptions alone are insufficient to meet the level of proof demanded by a criminal court to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Many people in Colorado accused of DWI often have little experience with the criminal justice system, prompting them to seek guidance from someone who does, such as an experienced criminal defense attorney.
