Those in Missouri who have spent any time at a hotel are likely aware that many different people have access to their hotel rooms. In fact, it may be impossible to know exactly how many people have the ability to enter a room. Despite this, a woman was recently arrested and charged with possession of drugs after police searched her hotel room.
According to reports, police arrived at the scene after they received a report of drug paraphernalia discovered in a room at approximately 4:15 one afternoon on a day in January. It is unclear who made this report or how the discovery was made. When police arrived at her room, they claim they discovered illegal items.
Items included a substance described as white and granular as well as a syringe. Police say that the white substance later tested positive as methamphetamine. The woman was arrested, charged with unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. She was reportedly also arrested on previous warrants related to failing to appear and violating an order of protection.
When attempting to gain a conviction for criminal charges, prosecutors must provide sufficient evidence in order to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This standard is purposefully set high in order to prevent wrongful convictions. Because the items related to the possession of drugs charge were discovered in a hotel room that others had access to, prosecutors will have to prove they were actually hers. In order to fully defend herself against the charges, the Missouri woman may choose to seek the help of an attorney with experience with such charges.
