MISSOURI MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF DRUGS AFTER CHASE

On Behalf of | Oct 19, 2017 | Firm News

Police in Missouri and other areas of the country claim to be waging a war against drugs. While their desire to remove drugs from the streets may be admirable, violating a suspect’s rights in the process of doing so is not. A man who was recently charged with possession of drugs may decide to take steps to ensure that he was treated lawfully prior to and following his arrest.

The events that led to the 29-year-old man’s arrest began one night in early October. A police officer who was patrolling claimed to have noticed a vehicle that he described as “suspicious.” It is unclear what led the officer to that conclusion.

The officer claims that when he attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Reports indicate that the vehicle eventually came to a stop and the officer was able to make contact with the driver. He has since been arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. He is currently being held on $4,500 bond. Additional charges could be filed against the man once the investigation is complete.

Unfortunately, many people in Missouri who are charged with possession of drugs and other criminal allegations are often unfamiliar with the criminal justice system. As such, they may be unable to recognize and appropriately respond to unlawful treatment. To help ensure they are fully prepared to respond to the charges against them, defendants often seek advice from experienced criminal defense attorneys.
