MISSOURI STUDENT FACES DRUG CHARGES IN CLASSMATE’S DEATH

On Behalf of | Feb 14, 2019 | Firm News

For many students in Missouri and across the country, college is a time of exploration and adventure. In fact, some students may ultimately experiment with alcohol and drugs. Unfortunately, police believe that a student recently died as a result of taking drugs; another student now faces drug charges as a result of the death.

The incident that led to one student’s death and another’s arrest reportedly happened on a day in early February. Police believe that a 19-year-old student sold Percocet to another student. The latter was reportedly discovered unresponsive in his room in a residence hall the next day.

Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, the student could not be revived. Even though toxicology reports have not been completed, police believe that the young man died as a result of the Percocet they say he purchased from the other student. Reports claim that an imprint on pills found near the deceased student’s body matched ones discovered in the defendant’s room. He has since been charged with delivery of a controlled substance, a felony.

An unexpected death is always difficult, and the demand for answers — and even the desire to place blame — is understandable. However, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in order for someone to be convicted of a crime. In this case, it is unclear what led police to suspect the Missouri college student of selling drugs, ultimately leading to drug charges. To help him respond to the allegations against him, he will likely want to consult with an experienced criminal defense attorney.
