MISSOURI TEEN ACCUSED OF MURDER IN PARENTS’ DEATH

The vast majority of teenagers in Missouri and across the country likely experience some degree of conflict with their parents. Often, adolescents may be unable to appropriately express their emotions following a dispute, but conflict rarely results in violence. Unfortunately, law enforcement officials have recently charged a teenager of murder following the death of her parents.

The deaths reportedly happened earlier in the year. Police say that the 15-year-old girl initially told them that her parents died during a robbery. Soon after, they say, she changed her story to say that her 38-year-old father had shot her 37-year-old mother, and then the teenager shot her father. Police discovered the bodies of the two victims in their home.

Reports claim that it took the teenager over an hour to call 911. One person claims that the teenager called him, requesting help. She reportedly told him that her parents had been shot, and he convinced her to call police. Law enforcement officials also claim that they discovered searches on her phone looking for movies featuring “kids” who “kill parents” as well as a video of her waving a gun.

The Missouri adolescent now faces multiple charges, including tampering with physical evidence, two counts of armed criminal action and two counts of second-degree murder, and will be tried as an adult. Unfortunately, this young woman is facing life-altering decisions that few people this age are prepared to make — especially on their own. Fortunately, an experienced criminal defense attorney may be able to help her understand the charges she is facing and respond appropriately.
