Missouri Teen Faces Murder Charge Following Gas Station Incident
When a person’s life is at risk, he or she often responds in a way that is instinctual. The purpose of the response is to protect oneself. Unfortunately, a teenager in Missouri is now charged with murder even though evidence surrounding the case indicates that he may have been acting out of fear for his own safety.
The incident that led to the 17-year-old male’s arrest reportedly happened during the early morning hours of a day in mid-May. The teen and a man were reportedly outside of a gas station when they became involved in an argument. Though the subject of the argument is unclear, documents detailing the incident indicate that the deceased put his hands around the teenager’s neck and pushed him against the wall.
Police say that witness reports claim that the teenager then pulled out a gun and shot the man several times. There is reportedly surveillance footage of the incident in addition to witness statements. The teenager surrendered to police a few days after the alleged incident.
In addition to second degree murder, the Missouri teenager is also charged with armed criminal action. As unfortunate as incidents such as these are, some people are put into situations where they feel that their lives are at risk, forcing them to take action to protect themselves. Because of the serious consequences of a conviction, most people facing criminal charges choose to consult with an attorney with experience with similar cases who can ensure that they have the information they need to make informed decisions.
