MISSOURI TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DWI, OTHER CHARGES

It is understandable that some people may panic when facing a confrontation with a law enforcement officer or other authority figure. That panic could potentially lead to an action that could be misinterpreted. In fact, police in Missouri claim that one man fled a traffic stop; he now faces DWI and multiple other criminal charges.

The incident that led to the 21-year-old man’s arrest reportedly happened one evening on a day in early February. Law enforcement officers claim that they attempted to stop a vehicle that they say did not have brake lights. According to reports, the driver of the vehicle drove away as an officer approached.

The officer claims to have witnessed the driver go through several stop signs, drive the wrong way on a one way street and drive significantly over the posted limit. The car was eventually discovered to have crashed, but the driver and a passenger allegedly ran from the scene. Police eventually took the man into custody but claim that he resisted arrest and say that they found two knives in his possession at the time of the arrest.

The man is under suspicion of DWI drugs, among other crimes, and police are still searching for the passenger. Unfortunately, the decisions that the young man faces now will likely have a significant impact on the rest of his life. Often, people in Missouri who have found themselves in such a situation have felt unprepared to make these decisions. As such, many seek guidance from a criminal defense attorney with experience with such cases, including helping her to decide whether to fight the charges she is facing or accept a plea deal, if offered.
