After an investigation began in another state, local police have arrested a 22-year-old Morehouse man. The Missouri police worked with the officers from a different state after the local police there were contacted about possible Internet sex crimes in the area. The man has been accused of sexual exploitation of a minor in another state.
On Nov. 4, the parents of a 14-year-old girl came forward to the police in another state. The parents suspected that their child was having improper communication with an adult through the Internet. The investigators determined that the individual could be in Missouri; therefore, they contacted Morehouse police and shared information with the department. The local police were allegedly able to locate the address of the suspect and execute a search.
During a search of the man’s residence, the investigators examined his electronic devices and supposedly found evidence of inappropriate communication. He was arrested in Missouri on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and enticement of a child, and he is currently being held on a $40,000 surety or cash bond. However, the police in Rhode Island– where the original complaint was made — continue to investigate.
Anytime a person is accused of Internet sex crimes in Missouri, it is a very serious accusation. Not only could a conviction result in prison time, but also it would mean that the individual would have to register as a sex offender, which may follow that person for the rest of his life. Therefore, the accused individual would do well to begin gathering information pertaining to his specific situation in an effort to prepare a defense in a way that he feels is likely to lead to the best outcome.
