A man was recently arrested for transporting a large amount of marijuana across state lines. However, the drug was not in plant form. The marijuana had been integrated into chocolate bars that, together, weighed over 400 pounds. The Missouri authorities have charged the man with possession of drugs with intent to distribute.
At about 3:35 p.m., the 42-year-old native of a West Coast state was driving along Interstate 70 in Lafayette County in his SUV. A Missouri state trooper pulled the vehicle over because of an alleged traffic violation, but the nature of the violation is not known. Furthermore, when the trooper went to talk with the man, the man seemed “deceptive” and had inconsistent answers — according to the trooper.
The driver’s behavior supposedly led the trooper to ask for permission to search the vehicle, and the driver consented to the search. The trooper found boxes inside the vehicle, and the boxes contained chocolate bars. The chocolate bars came in a variety of flavors, but each supposedly contained edible marijuana. The man was arrested and booked into Lafayette County Jail for possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Despite any evidence or accusations that the Missouri authorities have brought against this man, he remains innocent until, and only if, proved guilty in a court of law. In cases such as this one in which an individual is accused of possession of drugs, it is important for the defendant to scrutinize each aspect of his case, including his arrest. If improper procedure was followed during the search of his vehicle and his subsequent arrest, then it would likely have an effect on his case.
