CRIMINAL LAW EFFORTS NEEDED WHEN CHARGES SPAN VARIOUS STATES

On Behalf of | Oct 24, 2016 | Firm News

Being charged with a drug-related crime in Missouri is no small matter. Recent developments in this area suggest that criminal law guidance may be needed by defendants in several different states, including this one. Authorities have drawn connections between arrests in various areas as being connected to the same drug trafficking ring.

Various law enforcement agencies are said to have combined efforts to take down an alleged drug trafficking operation. Indictments were recently handed down against 13 people involved in the ring. A spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Justice said all those indicted are believed to have been involved in trafficking methamphetamine.

Reportedly, authorities in another state recently issued a new arrest warrant, only to learn that two of the defendants named in the warrant had already been arrested and put in jail in Missouri. The investigation at large began in 2015 and included undercover operations. Officers say they made at least 17 drug purchases, which amounted to more than a kilogram of methamphetamine.

A total of four people were arrested in Missouri in connection with the investigation. At least two of those people have been incarcerated. Undoubtedly, those facing charges or being held in custody will want to explore any criminal law options that might be available for their own defenses. It is common for those accused of drug crimes to discuss such issues with experienced criminal attorneys before appearing at any hearings or trials related to their charges. In this way, attorneys are often able to provide guidance regarding whether to negotiate to obtain plea bargains and what may be the best ways to combat certain assertions the prosecutors may be making at the time.
