MISSOURI DRIVER ACCUSED OF DRUNK DRIVING IN CRASH WITH TROOPER

Drivers, especially those driving at night, have many distractions and hazards while they are on Missouri roads. Unfortunately, something as simple as drifting onto the shoulder of the road can have drastic consequences. Despite the relative ease in which an accident can occur, a driver in Missouri now faces accusations of drunk driving following a collision with a state trooper’s car.

The accident happened just after 3:30 a.m. on the northbound side of Interstate 170. According to reports, the state trooper had recently pulled over another vehicle, and they were both parked on the shoulder of the road. Reports say that a third vehicle then struck the trooper’s car in the rear while he was sitting in it.

The force of the collision is said to have pushed the trooper’s vehicle into the one he had stopped. After he complained of leg pain, the trooper was transported to the hospital, and it was discovered that his leg was fractured. No other injuries were reported. Authorities believe that the driver that is believed to have been driving the vehicle that struck the trooper’s was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol.

Unfortunately, it is easy to assume that an accident that happens during the early morning hours was the result of drunk driving when it could have just as easily been caused by driver fatigue or momentary distraction. When a person in Missouri is accused of a crime, he or she is presumed not guilty unless proved otherwise, and a conviction can only come if there is sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. An attorney with experience with such cases can help those facing criminal charges examine the evidence against them and develop a plan of action.
