MISSOURI MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULT, KIDNAPPING

On Behalf of | Mar 7, 2018 | Firm News

Many couples experience complicated relationships. While most couples will have disagreements, it’s rare that these disagreements result in violence. Despite this, police believe that a Missouri man committed assault and kidnapped a woman with whom he had a romantic relationship.

The man’s arrest came in early March. The alleged victim claims that the 29-year-old man kicked her leg until she was barely able to stand and struck her until she was almost unconscious. She further claims that he threatened to “knock her teeth out” if she did not swallow a ring; she is scheduled to undergo a procedure to have the ring removed.

The woman says that she could not call police because he would not let her leave the home. However, she says that she went to work where she sought help. She gave police permission to search the residence where they allegedly found drug paraphernalia, marijuana and a gun. Although it is unclear how police determined that the items allegedly found were the man’s rather than hers, he now faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm and felony kidnapping.

Despite the allegations of assault, among others, made against the man, it is unclear if there is evidence that supports the woman’s versions of events. Often, events such as those alleged against this Missouri man are simply a matter of one person’s word against another’s. Because the criminal court requires a high burden of proof to convict someone of a crime, such a scenario is often insufficient.
