Missouri man accused of embezzlement by employer

The average person in Missouri likely has little experience with the criminal justice system. If an individual is accused of a crime, he or she may unfortunately have little idea how to respond to such accusations. Unfortunately, a man may now be unsure of his legal options after he was recently indicted on embezzlement charges.

The indictment was handed down on a day in early June. The defendant is a 44-year-old man, facing accusations of embezzling from his employer, Brewer Science. He was reportedly hired to serve as the company’s director of information systems in 2001. At that time, reports indicate, he was given a company credit card to allow him to buy computer equipment and software for the company.

However, the man is accused of making what appeared to be purchases from a store in California starting in 2008. He then, according to reports, created fake expense reports to justify the alleged purchases. However, authorities claim that he was actually putting money into a PayPal account set up under his neighbor’s name. He is now accused of embezzling $1.8 million from the company. Officials claim that once the alleged activity was discovered, the man was fired and the authorities were notified.

Regardless of the accusations made against a person or how convincing reports alleging embezzlement and other forms for criminal misconduct may seem, a person is considered not guilty until — and unless — proved otherwise. To do this, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. As this Missouri man contemplates the choices facing him, he may choose to ask an experienced criminal defense attorney to help him fully understand the options available to him.
