When a crime is believed to have been committed, police often want to quickly make an arrest. However, it often takes time to gather sufficient evidence to truly understand what happened and why. Often, when an arrest is quickly made, it happens without a full picture of actual events. For example, there are many unanswered questions following the recent arrest of man in Missouri on assault and arson charges.

The incident that led to the man’s arrest happened on a day in early July. Police say that emergency responders were called to the scene due to a fire. According to reports, first responders discovered a fully involved vehicle fire at the scene.

The fire spread to the front of a nearby house, and one person was rescued from the house. Reports indicate that law enforcement officials believe that the man taken into custody deliberately set the fire. Police also claim that he hit a woman with a baseball bat. The nature of her injuries is unclear. Additionally, it is unclear why police believe the man acted as they allege.

In addition to the arson and assault charges, the Missouri man is also accused of armed criminal action, and he is being held on a cash only bond. Regardless of the accusations against someone, those accused of crimes are presumed not guilty unless prosecutors provide enough evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This standard is purposefully high — and often difficult to meet — to prevent wrongful convictions. An experienced criminal defense attorney can help this man make the potentially life-altering decisions that he is facing.
