SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE IN MISSOURI LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES

On Behalf of | Sep 27, 2018 | Firm News

When a package is shipped between two states via the United States Postal Service, there is the potential that it will ultimately go through the hands of several postal workers. Throughout their career, postal workers likely encounter a number of different items — both expected and unexpected. Unfortunately, officials in Missouri claim that a package that was allegedly suspicious has resulted in drug charges against two men.

The two men were arrested on a day in September. According to reports, a suspicious package, originated from out of state, was mailed to a location in Missouri. Though reports indicate that the package was addressed to a model, it is unclear what about the package was believed to be suspicious.

Police say they discovered 1.5 million doses of fentanyl, an opiate that is more powerful than heroin. As a result, a condo and an apartment were also searched, allegedly resulting in the discovery of another kilogram of fentanyl, heroine, $20,000 in cash and a machine that could be used to encapsulate the fentanyl. It is unclear how the two residences were connected to the package.

As a result of the searches, two men in Missouri are in federal custody and now face drug charges, including possession and distribution. Unfortunately, the criminal justice system can be complicated and can seem especially confusing for people who do not have legal training. Fortunately, an experienced criminal defense attorney can help those facing charges examine the details of their case to determine whether any unlawful action happened and take appropriate legal action.
