For many teenagers in Missouri, life is filled with homework and planning for the future. However, police say that three teens have recently been charged, following an alleged robbery that was reportedly botched. Two of the teens are accused of murder.

The incident is said to have happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. on a day in October. According to reports, the alleged victim was attempting to park his car when he was approached by what reports describe as an “armed robber.” The victim was reportedly also armed, and an exchange of gunfire allegedly ensued; it is unclear who fired the first shot.

The victim called 911 but died several hours later at the hospital. The alleged aggressor, a 16-year-old male, reportedly fled the scene in a sport utility vehicle that had been reported stolen the week before; he was arrested when he was dropped off at the hospital. Two other people were arrested after police attempted to stop the SUV and the driver crashed. One of the occupants, a 15-year-old male, and the 16-year-old are both charged with murder. The second occupant, a 17-year-old, is not believed to have taken part in the robbery.

Unfortunately, a murder charge is serious and can come with significant consequences upon conviction. It has yet to be determined whether the two teenagers charged with murder will be tried as adults. Regardless of the person’s age, the criminal justice system can be a scary, stressful undertaking, but it is likely especially more so for the two Missouri teenagers. As such, having a criminal defense attorney on their side could ensure that they are fully aware of their options.
