There is no doubt that law enforcement officers have difficult jobs. Not only do they face physical harm, but they often witness incidents that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, a former police chief in Missouri now faces assault charges, following an incident reportedly involving the father of a child the law enforcement officer had rescued from a pond.

Reports indicate that the officer, a 50-year-old man, resigned from his position among allegations that he assaulted a man who was allegedly handcuffed at the time. Reports accuse the officer of hitting the man in the face. Federal officials say that the handcuffed man posed no threat at the time of the incident.

While court papers involved with the recent indictment of the former officer only identify the alleged victim by his initials, other reports connect the case to a man now facing charges of assault and abuse of a child. Reports claim that the man had put his child in a pond in Dec. 2018. The former chief and other law enforcement officers had to rescue the child and perform CPR.

Law enforcement officers invest a great deal of themselves in their work and often see horrific things as they complete their job responsibilities. Unfortunately, this former officer in Missouri must now face the personal and professional ramifications of actions that allegedly happened following what must have been a traumatic experience. The man will likely want an attorney on his side who has experience with such cases, as he responds to the assault allegations against him.
