Former Missouri police officer charged with domestic assault

A relationship with a romantic partner can contain turmoil and conflict, even for couples who are relatively happy with their relationship. However, even couples who are prone to argue with one another rarely turn to violence. Despite this, a former police officer in Missouri is now facing charges related to alleged domestic assault incidents.

The charges against the 39-year-old man were sparked by reports the alleged victim made to police officers in Nov. 2019. She reportedly told officers that the man head-butted her during an argument that happened in mid-November. She also told officers that it was not the first time such an event had happened, further stating that she once woke up with blood coming from her mouth after an argument in which she felt he was going to hit her.

A judge reportedly issued a protection order in Dec. 2019, prohibiting the man from coming within 500 feet of the woman or communicating with her. However, the man reportedly waited for her at the courthouse on a day in which she had an appointment. Officers claim they discovered a GPS tracking device on the victim’s vehicle.

In addition to felony assault charges, the man is also accused of violating an order of protection. Reports indicate that man resigned from his position as a police officer in January. Regardless of the accusations that law enforcement officers make and the media reports, those facing criminal charges in Missouri and across the country are presumed innocent unless sufficient evidence is provided in court to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Because of the high stakes associated with many criminal cases, defendants often want a professional to help them sort through the charges against them and take appropriate action.
