Most drivers have experienced a moment when his or her vehicle drifted off the side of the road. Typically, this sort of incident ends with the driver making a correction and continuing on his or her way. However, police claim that an accident in which a driver drove off the side of a road in Missouri was intentional; now the man faces DWI charges, among others.

The incident reportedly happened on a Saturday morning in early May. According to reports, a 50-year-old man was driving when he allegedly drove off the right side of the road intentionally. Police said he accelerated and struck a 48-year-old pedestrian who is reportedly the owner of the vehicle involved in the incident; it is unclear why police suspect that the incident was intentional.

Police say that evidence from the victim was discovered on the windshield of the vehicle. The pedestrian reportedly suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital. Court records indicate that he lives in a camper behind the residence of the man accused of driving the vehicle that struck him.

The alleged driver now faces multiple charges; in addition to DWI, he is charged with driving while revoked, leaving the scene of an accident and first-degree assault. He is currently being held on a $20,000 bond. Unfortunately, many people in Missouri facing similar charges have found their situations to be overwhelming because of the importance of the decisions that they must make — especially if they have little legal training. Fortunately, there are professionals who can ensure that they have all of the information that they need to make informed decisions as they navigate the criminal justice system.
