The legal landscape surrounding weapon-related offenses is complex and stringent. St. Louis has its own regulations regarding weapons within city limits, adding another layer of complexity to compliance.

Given the severity of penalties associated with weapon-related offenses, individuals should be aware of their rights and responsibilities under the law.

Illegal possession of weapons

Possession of weapons by convicted felons is a class C felony punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and imprisonment for a term ranging from 3 to 10 years.

On the other hand, possession of weapons by people subject to domestic violence and restraining orders is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and imprisonment for up to 1 year.

Unlawful use of weapons

Brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner is a Class D felony punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and imprisonment for a term ranging from 1 to 7 years.

Discharging a weapon within city limits or negligently is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and imprisonment for up to 1 year.

Possession of a weapon while intoxicated is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and imprisonment for up to 6 months.

Possession of illegal weapons

Possession of prohibited weapons such as brass knuckles, switchblades or certain types of knives is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and imprisonment for up to 1 year. The possession of a weapon without required permits or licenses can result in varying penalties and prison terms, depending on the specific offense and circumstances.

Trafficking weapons

Illegally selling, distributing or transferring weapons is a Class B felony punishable by a fine of up to $20,000 and imprisonment for a term ranging from 5 to 15 years.

With the potential for severe penalties, working with a legal team if you are facing any of the above charges can be beneficial. There is simply too much at stake to navigate such charges without proper support.
